Metro Rail Expo Corridor, Phase 1 to Culver City

The Metro Rail Exposition Corridor (MREC) to Culver City, Phase 1 is currently under construction and is being built by the Exposition Construction Authority (Expo). While Metro is providing the funding for this project, Expo is the owner of the project during final design and construction. Once the line opens, the Expo Corridor will be operated and owned by Metro.

The MREC Project will be the first Metro Rail line to connect Downtown LA with the Westside area at Culver City. The 8.5 mile line runs along the Metro-owned Exposition right-of-way from the existing Metro Rail station at 7th/Metro Center in Downtown LA to Venice/Robertson in Culver City and includes nine new stations. Although the alignment will be primarily at-grade, the project includes aerial stations at Expo/La Brea, La Cienega/Jefferson and Venice/Robertson.

MREC facts include:

  • Metro will integrate the MREC into existing Metro Rail service and operate the line once construction is complete
  • When the line opens to the public, it will join the Metro Rail system which will offer 80 stations and over 87 miles of rail to destinations across LA County
  • Metro riders will be able to connect with other Metro Rail lines at 7th/Metro Center in Downtown LA and Metro Bus lines at every station
  • All stations include public art
  • The new stations include:
    • 23rd Street
    • Jefferson/USC
    • Expo Park/USC
    • Expo/Vermont
    • Expo/Western
    • Expo/Crenshaw
    • Expo/La Brea
    • La Cienega/Jefferson
    • Venice/Robertson

Design Concepts

Exposition Transit Parkway

Exposition Transit Parkway

The Exposition Light Rail line features an urban design concept for the alignment called the Exposition Transit Parkway. The goal of this concept is to establish a multi-modal transit corridor combining a light rail transit alignment, a bikeway, streets and pedestrian linkages in a safe, balanced and cohesive parkway setting.
